Roswitha Schardt

The visual artist Roswitha Schardt was born in Wermelskirchen and remains wholeheartedly a "Bergische" creative.

Roswitha Schardt found her way to art somewhat later in life. Although she was touched by the muse early on, family obligations initially took precedence, leading her to focus on completing her education and training as a tapestry weaver.

Love then prompted a second shift in focus towards family. It is all the more remarkable that her drive to create never waned, and after starting her family and once her two children were on successful academic paths, she courageously decided to pursue her creative talents as a profession, which was quite bold for the time.

She prepared intensively for the theoretical and practical entrance exams and, thanks to her talent, secured one of the few available spots in the program. At the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, she studied "Kommunikationsdesign" and successfully graduated as a Diplom-Designerin.

During her studies, she engaged deeply with free graphic art, painting, and sculpture.

She was particularly captivated by figure drawing and the free work with paper and print, which sparked her creativity from the very beginning.

After completing her studies, she worked for several years as both an employed and freelance graphic designer.

Gradually, she shifted her focus towards free painting.

Today, she lives and works in Solingen.
