Bärbel Ertl-Beddig

Bärbel Ertl-Beddig works with natural materials. In her new pieces, she has largely moved away from traditional brush painting and developed her own technique, now working directly with fundamental materials such as linseed oil, color pigments, brown millet, waste paper, and marble dust — and with her hands! The act of touching and feeling is very important to her, as it allows for a more precise adjustment of consistency and line quality. Through a systematic process of working, layers are built up, which can then be sanded down or partially removed in subsequent stages to create contours — that is, marks — that leave a lasting impression.

This natural quality of the works and the unique method of processing create a distinct artistic "line quality" while maintaining a breadth of material and execution. Bärbel Ertl-Beddig transforms new forms or materials into realities that seek to be reinterpreted.
