Annette Palder
ANNETTE PALDER works across various artistic directions, yet maintains a distinctive personal style.
On one hand, there are her collages, which beautifully combine elements of reality (from newspapers, magazines, etc.) with very abstract painting. These works thrive on often playful word games and striking or thought-provoking snippets of altered photographic material, which are then integrated into an abstract interplay of acrylic colors and composition, culminating in a cohesive artistic statement. At the same time, this recontextualization of individual elements creates a tension that gives this abstract painting a unique identity.
On the other hand, her free mixed media paintings often achieve a three-dimensional quality through the intensive use of materials like paste, glue, sand, and ash—transforming the more representational source images (even if they exist only in the mind) into a more abstract representation with suggested and skillfully placed signs.
Lastly, there is her artistically independent yet also INNOVATIVE position: the COMBINATION of photography and painting.
Both forms of expression are skillfully connected through juxtaposition and integration. Here, the artist's extensive training clearly plays to her advantage.
In addition to her unique eye for motifs and her excellent choice of perspective in images, her ability to create the character of the work through both compositional skill and adept color selection, as well as the masterful use of brush and palette knife, comes to the forefront.
