Assemblagen
„Imagery newly considered, art newly defined!
Art newly considered, imagery newly defined!“
(quotation of the artist about his new artworks)
The most recent artworks by the internationally known
artist Ralf Majewska show a series of large-sized paper-
assemblages, fully covered in transparent acrylic caps. Their
3-D appearance is drawn from a meticulous preparation of
multiple layers, each one of them baring its own feature.
Firstly paintings, comics, sketches and photographies are
projected onto a plane which then is deliberately cut and
supplemented by new images, finally evolving the
assemblage und its relief-like surface. In addition, these
„set-pieces“, extracted from well known imageries, create a
whole new world in which the corpereal is elaborated by a
subtle cutting technique and backgrounds are designed as
theater and film sets. The frozen movements of people,
appearing like film-cuts, seem to be known but in fact
unfold a disconcerting impression due to the artistic
modifications. Everyday situations are transformed into
dreamlike sceneries and iconised personalities, captured in
famous portraits, are reconsidered and newly interpreted.
The artworks enable us to look behind the scenes and to
then find yourself being the actor in one of the surreal
productions.
