Roland Frenzel
In concentrated, dense still lifes and emotive portraits, the artist's mastery is revealed. Frenzel's free approach to color places him within the tradition of German Expressionism. His obsessive focus on recurring subjects culminates in a compelling body of work.
Roland Frenzel, born in Leipzig in 1938 and passed away there in 2004, is regarded as an eccentric figure in the Leipzig art scene. His works stand in stark contrast to the academic painting tradition established under the title "Leipziger Schule." Nevertheless, Frenzel's work garnered attention during his lifetime. His participation in district art exhibitions of the GDR in Leipzig, the first exhibition of the BBK at the Museum der bildenden Künste, and the exhibition "Leipzig and Classical Modernism" at the Kunsthalle der Sparkasse attest to this. The Lindenau Museum in Altenburg acquired a painting by the artist as early as 1973.
