Hermann-Josef Kuhna

* 1944

Born in 1944, Hermann-Josef Kuhna studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1964 to 1969, becoming part of a significant generation of artists from the academy who made waves and garnered international attention in the 1960s.

Following his studies, the artist taught at the academy and was appointed as a professor at the Kunstakademie Münster in the late 1970s, which was then still a branch of the Düsseldorf academy. Until his retirement in 2009, Kuhna trained numerous generations of artists.

Since 1980, Kuhna has been working from his studio in Düsseldorf. In 1997, his 320 square meter mural "Rivertime" was inaugurated at the lower Rhine waterfront at Burgplatz – and since then, the artist has become well-known among many Düsseldorfers, with his work closely linked to the city.

Even at 72, Hermann-Josef Kuhna remains as artistically active as ever, enjoying a high reputation that has led to his works being represented in both national and international museum and private collections.
