Heinz Lewerenz

Heinz Lewerenz (September 21, 1890 in Bielefeld; August 31, 1939 in Bad Wiessee) was a German Expressionist.

After completing an apprenticeship in commerce, Heinz Lewerenz worked in a pattern drawing studio. He then attended Godewols' class at the Crafts and Arts and Crafts School in Bielefeld from 1909 to 1914, where he met, among others, Peter August Böckstiegel and Victor Tuxhorn. Heinz Lewerenz became a member of the artist group "Rote Erde" in Bielefeld before serving in World War I from 1914 to 1918. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden (teacher: Otto Gussmann). In 1919, Lewerenz was a founding member of the artist community "Der Wurf." From 1923, Lewerenz served as the head of the design class for applied painting at the School of Arts and Crafts in Kassel. In 1937, works by Heinz Lewerenz were confiscated and destroyed by the Nazis.
