Hans-Christian Schink

* 1961

Hans Christian Schink studied photography from 1986 and was a master student at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig from 1991 to 1993.

In 2008, he received the REAL Photography Award for his series "1h."

Schink is considered one of the leading figures in contemporary art.

Biography: Born in 1961 in Erfurt, he studied photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig from 1986 to 1991. In 1990, he participated in a photography exchange program organized by DFJW at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn and École Nationale de la Photographie in Arles. From 1991 to 1993, he was a master student at HGB Leipzig. In 1997, he received a work stipend from the Kulturfonds Foundation for the Künstlerhaus Schloß Wiepersdorf. In 1998, he was awarded a work stipend by the Thüringer Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst. In 1999, he received another work stipend from the Kulturfonds Foundation. In 2000, he received project funding from the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen and won the "Prix Sinar" at the "Grand Prix Européen de la Ville de Vevey" competition in Switzerland. In 2002, he was an "artist in residence" at Villa Aurora - Foundation for European-American Relations in Los Angeles. In 2004, he won the Deutscher Fotobuchpreis, and in 2008, he received both the REAL Photography Award and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Prize.
