Günter Richter
Günter Richter, a graduate of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, presents his latest works in his second solo exhibition at Galerie Koenitz. These pieces explore the classic subjects of painting—still life and (urban) landscapes—expressed in a realistic manner on canvas. In a straightforward, drawing-like style, Günter Richter combines pure representational elements in his paintings—ruined buildings, an abandoned typewriter, shattered mannequins—that allow for ambivalent imagery due to their metaphorical implications.
At times, the artist's works, which can be associated with Magical Realism, convey a yellowish, gloomy atmosphere reminiscent of the moments just before a storm. The viewer senses that everything is charged—something is about to happen.
