David Tollmann

* 1988

"I paint!... I do it with passion! I've been doing this my whole life! It's in my genes!"

The story of David Tollmann begins with emotion and love.

His personal enthusiasm for art and aesthetics is at the heart of his actions. Each of his works emerges from a place of deep feeling, characterized by figurative painting with expressive colors.

David Tollmann was born in 1988 in the small town of Sulingen in Lower Saxony. As the son of the successful artist Markus Tollmann and the grandson of Günter Tollmann, a significant painter and object artist who shared a close friendship with contemporaries like Beuys and Uecker, he has been deeply rooted in the art scene since childhood.

His creativity manifests as a vivid expression of his stirring thoughts—his discontent, his joy, his circumstances. It feels like a rush, like a liberation. For David Tollmann, art is a shield to protect himself from society. It can be seen as a humorous play with cubist elements and portraits featuring ironic or emphatic gestures, along with aesthetic provocations.

Driven by the idea of improving the world through form, color, and material, he offers painting classes for children and invites them into his studio. Making art accessible to others and thereby preserving his identity is his mission.

David Tollmann's works are exhibited internationally. He lives and works in Hanover.
