Galerie Marco Jansen
The Marco Jansen Gallery (GMJ) was founded in May 2007. Since then, we have been showcasing contemporary art in our space in Hürth, near Cologne. Our exhibition program is primarily dominated by two artists: the gallery's namesake, the self-taught Marco Jansen, and Hartmut Ritzerfeld, a master student of Beuys, who is also known to many by his nickname "Haki." Additionally, we regularly feature other artists.
When Marco Jansen opened the gallery in July 2007 with the exhibition "Marco Jansen - Abstract Painting" in his parents' house, the exhibition space was limited to a room of 16 m². For the second exhibition, "Hartmut Ritzerfeld - Thousand Faces," his parents provided him with an additional room, effectively doubling the exhibition area. The early exhibitions flew under the radar of the press and public, with visitors primarily consisting of friends and family, creating a very familial atmosphere. Since 2010, exhibitions have been held on the ground floor of the family home, covering around 60 m². Here, the exhibition "MARCO JANSEN | BLACK HOLES - THERE IS NO MODICUM OF HOPE" in the summer of 2012 was able to attract the interest of the press for the first time. For larger exhibitions today, the rooms on the first floor can also be utilized, where a selection of Hartmut Ritzerfeld's works can be viewed year-round.
