NEUE WERKE

KLAUS DENNHARDT (*1941) -
NEW WORKS

Klaus Dennhardt, born in 1941 and trained at the HfBK Dresden, is an intense and thoughtful experimenter who navigates both the realm of consciously reduced realism and the seriously playful abstraction. His inner attitude may be likened to that of Glöckner, with whom he shared a studio and friendship for many years during the DDR era until his departure in 1986. In the 1970s and 80s, Dennhardt was regarded as a representative of the avant-garde due to his geometric-abstract and informal works. Leaving behind the printing press, his work evolved in West Germany towards a more realistic direction.
In 2010, the artist concluded his creative phase in Berlin to return to Dresden. The current exhibition particularly highlights the new works from the last three years. Since 2013, the pastel technique has been replaced by acrylic paint on jute. At the same time, there are constructively overlapping compositions on paper.
