Stubborn and robust, thick yet fleeting, and highly complex: working with oil paint is one of the most demanding disciplines for artists. At the same time, it is also one of the most expressive, original, and sensual. With "Oil & Honey," Jörg Döring pays his own tribute to oil and canvas, giving the genre a virtuosic upgrade.

In addition to familiar subjects like pin-ups, Mickey Mouse, and the Pink Panther, JD now also turns his attention to Marvel heroes. Sometimes rendered in thick, distorted forms and at other times captured in photorealistic detail on canvas, Batman, Cat Woman, Joker, and others are placed in context that resonates today, accompanied by sharp-tongued, provocative commentary. Their thematic connection to Snoopy and the comparatively tame Disney heroes can be interpreted as a nod to the stereotypical clash of cultures - good versus evil. But that’s not a requirement. As JD puts it: Anything goes, nothing is mandatory - the interpretation is left to the viewer.

The "Artist’s Secrets" also celebrate a world premiere: conceived as a homage to Warhol's famous Brillo Boxes and a (self)ironic play on illusions, the faithful reproductions of cardboard boxes symbolize JD's artistic identity. This transforms philosophy into a product - and harmless eye candy suddenly becomes a subversive mind-blower. Jörg Döring will be present to guide the opening night.

The welcome will be given by Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, the Mayor of Cologne; the laudation will be delivered by Gérard Goodrow, Art Consultant and former Director of Art Cologne.
