HANS CHRISTOPH - vom Gegenstand zum Informel

HANS CHRISTOPH (1901-1992) - From Object to Informel Acrylic Works, Watercolors, and Drawings

Hans Christoph, trained as an art teacher at the Kunstgewerbeakademie Dresden, was a member of the "Dresdner Sezession 1919" and, until 1933, of the "Neuen Dresdner Sezession" (alongside Beutner, Dix, Glöckner, Heuer, Kesting, Kinder, Kretzschmar, Querner), the "ASSO," the artist groups "Der Ruf," and from 1948, "Das Ufer." In 1945, the artist lost almost his entire body of work.

As a lecturer at the HfBK Dresden, Christoph faced criticism in the 1950s for his "formalist tendencies." From the mid-1960s, he independently developed a tachistically influenced art style, separate from Jackson Pollock. Despite political opposition, he created a significant body of work that stands as an excellent example of artists of his time who were open-minded and ignored the ideologically mandated art doctrines of the GDR. In 1976, after nearly three decades of withdrawal, the artist was honored in his first solo exhibition during the GDR era by Dr. Fritz Löffler at Kühl.

His works are part of both museum and private collections.

We look forward to your visit at the Kunstausstellung Kühl Dresden.
