Zwei Landschafter

Two Landscape Artists
FRANZISKA HESSE | KLAUS SCHIFFERMÜLLER

July 17 - August 16 and September 2 - September 27, 2014

INVITATION
We warmly invite you and your friends to the opening and to visit the sales exhibition on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 7 PM. The speech will be given by Dr. Holger Birkholz, art scholar. Music: Paul Berberich will perform improvisations on the saxophone.

We are pleased to present Franziska Hesse and Klaus Schiffermüller for the first time in our gallery with an extensive selection of their works. Both artists draw directly from the landscapes around them. While Hesse focuses on small garden situations, particularly her home region of Mecklenburg, viewers of Schiffermüller’s oil paintings are invited to engage with experienced natural scenes, where the immediate location appears less important, serving more as a homage. The artist creates powerful graphite works and mixed media on paper through dynamic, multi-layered strokes, while the painter prefers canvas, often opting for large formats.

Franziska Hesse

Born in 1979 in Crivitz near Schwerin/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
2000–2009 Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, Diploma
Foundation studies with Prof. Elke Hopfe and Prof. Siegfried Klotz,
Main studies with Prof. Peter Bömmels
Member of the Künstlerbund Dresden since 2010
2013 Purchase award from the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony

Her work represents an attempt to give form to the chaotic state of excitement when confronted with a landscape, structure, or idea — and to do so with all her strength. From this motivation, the artist creates images whose tension lies in the visible search. The predominant theme for the painter is landscape, particularly the Mecklenburg region from which she hails.

Klaus Schiffermüller

Born in 1982 in Kelheim/Niederbayern
2004 Studies at AdbK Nürnberg in Free Graphics and Painting/Object Art; Prof. Rolf-Gunter Dienst
2006 Erasmus Scholarship at AdbA Sassari; Sardinia; Italy
2007 Scholarship from the Bavarian Ministry of Science, Research and Art for the Summer Academy Salzburg (Installation/Concept Art; Prof. Roman Opalka)
2007 Master student under Prof. Rolf-Gunter Dienst
2008 Studies at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee (Free Painting; Prof. Antje Majewski)
2011 Diploma

His paintings are abstract representations of real landscape fragments created in the studio. Through memory and nature study, vague image ideas take shape, with the direct painterly gesture providing a color-harmonious anchor point for their execution. The figurative reference offers suitable resistance for compositional orientation.

We look forward to your visit!

Please note our SUMMER BREAK from August 17 to September 1, 2014.
