Popstalgie

I am very pleased to invite you to the group exhibition "Popstalgie." The show features works by Aaron Vidal and Holger Zimmermann, both of whom explore the 1950s and 60s in their paintings. The artists play with a nostalgic perspective on the world and reinterpret it in innovative ways.

In Aaron Vidal's paintings, the dominant motif is automobiles from the 50s and 60s. These cars are paired with people from that era, including celebrities like the Kennedys, as well as beautiful men and women who embody the spirit of the times. His works are rich in contrast and feature a clear visual language.

Holger Zimmermann draws inspiration for his works from magazines and publications from the 50s and 60s, where both people and objects appear equally in his paintings. Characteristic of his works on handmade paper are the blurred outlines and the reduced color palette.

The different approaches of the two artists evoke a similar effect on the viewer: they stir up memories and unrecognized longings. A sense of popstalgia emerges.
