The Frankfurt art gallery bestregarts shines a spotlight on dogs in a spectacular, one-of-a-kind exhibition in Germany. On the 14th floor of the FBC high-rise, located in the heart of the banking district, curator Ewa Nowik presents a fascinating and multifaceted perspective on humanity's best friend.
The dog as a subject captivates not only dog lovers but also many artists. Across 600 square meters of exhibition space, bestregarts showcases the works of 14 international photographers: Carli Davidson, Dieter Schwer, Frank Wartenberg, Jana Hartmann, Jillian Lochner, Karin Székessy, Lennette Newell, Mart Engelen, Olaf Martens, Peter Braunholz, Ruth Marcus, Seth Casteel, Valentina Uhlmann, and Walter Schels. Diving, sleeping, or disabled dogs inspire smiles, wonder, and contemplation. The exhibition is under the patronage of Maja Prinzessin von Hohenzollern (present at the opening) and Holger Weinert from Hessischer Rundfunk, who is an author, journalist, and dog enthusiast.
Charity
Since bestregarts, the patrons, and sponsors care deeply about art and animals, a portion of the exhibition's proceeds will benefit a project by the European Animal and Nature Conservation Association (ETN e.V.): The ETN shelter in Bad Karlshafen currently cares for 40 severely injured street dogs from Ukraine. Animal protectors rescued them from being burned alive in mobile crematoriums during the European Football Championship. They are now ensuring that the dogs receive surgery and find new homes. Maja Prinzessin von Hohenzollern coordinates this effort. As an ambassador for ETN, she fights internationally for the rescue and rights of animals.
Dogs accompanying their owners to the opening are warmly welcomed. A Cloud7 Dog Lounge with treats awaits them. For the enjoyment of humans, there will be small snacks and Pfälzer wine available.
The exhibition will be on view from 07.11. to 21.12.2012, every Tue – Fri from 11:00 to 19:00. Admission is free.
