Marius D. Kettler

For the sound installations and video work he utilizes electro acoustic audio material, processed digital media and field recordings. His sound installations vary from electromagnetic, interactive, mechanical hybrid installations to multi channel sound compositions. Kettler works thematically, where he experiments with spatial environments, artificial or natural. Visual and acoustic space is configured with maximal simplicity. He investigates the physical aspect of sound, acoustic transparency and site specific sound transmission. Field recordings include industrial cites, rural and urban areas as also natural sounds. The investigation of sound, the origin and the boundaries, where the sensory characteristics of memory and association influence the perceptive moment.

Kettlers sound compositions are recorded with instruments, mechanical sounds and electro noise, the digitally processed material is then made into a multi channel or mono sound installations.

Kettlers paintings have developed from realism, to the theme surrealism, over to the pictographic implementation from his art theory Actuismus, leading to the color rooms where he examines the contrasts and similarities of color.
These works with day glow fluorescent colors correlate contrasts and similarities, that then appear to lead to a color congruity. Though at the same time the non contrasts become the color sensations. How does the normal paint interact with the day glow paint?
These color rooms create an irritating opposite from the arbitrary to the suspenseful.
The exploration of color and its apparent boundaries is the theme in these works. The creation of color rooms with endless depth and an intense three dimensional quality is one of the challenges in this body of work.
