Julia Sossinka

* 1983

Julia Sossinka was born in 1983 in Hattingen. From 2002, she studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where she was appointed a master student by Academy Director Prof. Markus Lüpertz in 2008. She completed her studies with the Akademiebrief in 2009.

Julia Sossinka is part of a generation of contemporary female artists who create works full of inspiration and carefree curiosity in their engagement with the world around them. Using seemingly worthless items—“Lost and Found,” discarded plastic like bags or packaging, remnants of fabrics, tulle, paper scraps, rods, and spheres—she crafts fresh, almost surprisingly cheerful collages. The apparent uselessness of the various materials that catch her eye is transformed into complex images through her use of them. As sculptural objects, as part of a whole, she gives them a completely new expression.
