Jelena Trivic
The freely standing, sculptural "image pairs," held together by copper pipes, are covered with nylon fabric printed with scanned patterns developed by Jelena Trivic.
In all of her works, the Berlin-based former Städelschülerin explores the creative penetration and transformation of classical painting formats using methods and techniques from applied art.
Jelena Trivic playfully reverses Walter Benjamin's often-cited notion of the artwork in the age of its technical reproducibility by imitating means of reproducibility or simply capturing their "waste" and infusing it with artistic energy.
Within this spectrum, the boxes, which gather personal items belonging to individuals behind tinted glass, initially appear as resistances. Linked to associations between card catalogues and display cases, they harbor and reveal the image of the "personal" as a composition of artifacts. The aura of the "authenticity" of the artwork merges with the feeling of grasping something distinctly human and owned.
