Benjamin Burkard

Benjamin Burkard's visual worlds are unmistakable. Whether it's complex hybrid images of humans and machines, tanks drenched in gold, or hypnotic animal portraits, his subjects carry an air of mystery and the sublime. Oscillating between surrealism, symbolism, and naturalism, he often juxtaposes surprising color contexts against his central motifs. He creates emphasis through targeted neon colorations, broken gold and copper backgrounds, or dramatic chiaroscuro contrasts.

The artist experiments with materials and techniques, meticulously exploring their properties and possibilities before applying them to canvas and wood for their new purpose. Leaf gold and copper become original painting colors that he has previously created in an alchemical manner. The contexts he opens up, not least through his titles, remain enigmatic and encourage the viewer to reflect on backgrounds, connections, and interactions. What do we really see? Benjamin Burkard is a master of suggestion and reinterpretation of visible phenomena and their codes, making his works a form of social critique as well.

Born in 1986, Benjamin Burkard lives and works in Kandel, Rhineland-Palatinate. His works have already been exhibited at the Museum Modern Art Hünfeld.
