Galerie in Köln
Gottfried Stracke

The Stracke Gallery in Cologne is a specialized institution for historical textiles, focusing on the conservation, storage, and inventory of textile objects. The gallery offers comprehensive services ranging from condition assessment and analysis of textile materials to the development of conservation concepts. These measures are designed to stabilize the condition of objects and prevent future damage, while always preserving the historical significance of the pieces.

An example of the gallery's expertise is the complex conservation of the Peace Flag of the City of Münster from 1648, which is considered a significant historical monument. By revising a previous restoration, the flag's substance was secured, making it accessible for future public presentation. The Stracke Gallery places great importance on the scientific documentation of the measures taken to ensure the art-historical analysis and classification of the objects.

The gallery is located at Klingelpützstraße 16–18, just a ten-minute walk from Cologne Central Station, making it easily accessible. In addition to conservation activities, the gallery also offers consultations on storage concepts and climatic conditions for the preservation of textiles.

Another feature of the Stracke Gallery is its close collaboration with various artists, including Henning Bertram, Sonia Costantini, Axel Heibel, Kiyomi Kaneko, Gianni Pellegrini, Beate Prantner, Klaus Simon, and Ulrich Wagner. These artists bring diverse perspectives and techniques to the gallery, creating a varied and engaging program.
