Katharina Poos (Watercolor)
Miran Kim (Painting)

Tuesday, May 7th at 7 PM Exhibition Opening

Miran Kim was born in Seoul in 1963 and studied landscape painting. From 1995 to 2002, she studied art in Kassel. Since 2006, she has been working as a freelance artist in Berlin. In 2005, she was a guest lecturer at the Central Academy of Art in Beijing.

Katharina Poos was born in Berlin in 1961. She studied painting at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, among others, under Dieter Hacker. From 1991 to 1995, she was a member of the artist group Karo Vein. In 1992, she held a teaching position at the HdK.

Mi-Ran Kim's finely nuanced reflections on water (tempera on nettle) question our understanding of perception. The light on the water's surface seems to take on a life of its own, telling its own story.

Katharina Poos's watercolors depict outlines of fragmented people, animals, and objects. Painted with delicate, translucent colors on paper, the suggested scenarios appear to be emerging or fading away. Thus, the question of our perception arises again. How do we piece together our worldview into a whole? Both artists pass this question on to us and respond with a gentle, light gesture. In a mysteriously unsettling atmosphere of ambivalence between familiarity and strangeness, there are no clear answers.

Both artists are not trying to obscure something clear, but rather to make the seemingly unclear visible in its indeterminacy.
