Josef Karl "Female ID´s" & Collaborations mit Kommissar Hjuler

Josef Karl studied communication design at FH München and completed his diploma thesis in photography in the slums of Calcutta. The harrowing images of India left such a profound impact on him that he aimed to establish himself as a charity photographer, following in the footsteps of Jacob A. Riis and Lewis W. Hine. This was followed by the project "abcnervosa," which aimed to support people with eating disorders. The tragic death of his son, who was shaken to death by a Munich daycare provider in 2008, had an immense influence on his oeuvre.

Uecker works with nails, Piene with fire, Beuys with fat and felt—Josef Karl works with passports to emphasize the uniqueness and authenticity of each individual; with his one-of-a-kind artworks, he rebels against the mass production of art editions, aiming to restore the high value of art.

In addition to the photographic works from the "female id's" series, we will also showcase assemblages created by the Flensburg artist Kommissar Hjuler, based on Josef Karl's photos or in response to the death of Christopher Karl.

We can look forward to a brief introduction to the artists and works by Kommissar Hjuler.
