"Comin’ to leave" | Freya Burmeister | Malerei

Galerie Tatort will showcase works by Hamburg-based painter Freya Burmeister in September.

Inner worlds, perceptions, and feelings are not truly universally translatable, expressible, or representable. They remain, in a sense, a mystery.

Ambivalence, ambiguity, and sometimes the unfinished, which leave it up to the viewer to find their own position, are important criteria in Freya Burmeister's work.

The focus of her artistic practice lies in the process of painting itself. It is rarely a planned endeavor. Instead, the development emerges from the materials (acrylics and mixed techniques, incorporating elements like sand, charcoal, pigments, or varnishes) and the handling of color itself.

In a time when we are constantly bombarded by stimuli and offers, risking the loss of our ability to reflect on ourselves, our perceptions, and our feelings, the paintings challenge us to pause and examine our inner worlds.

The exhibition's finissage will take place on October 15, 2010, at 8:00 PM.
