Das Pferd in der Kunst

The domesticated horse, which has been a companion to humans since ancient times, is inextricably linked to the development of our civilization.

Numerous artworks throughout art history depict this close relationship in various ways.

This exhibition focuses on contemporary sculpture and presents, for the first time in Münster, the bronze sculptures of two artists living in France, Marie la Varande and Chengdong Guo, as well as the "zezootiere" by Gertraude Zebes and two of the most significant monumental sculptures from the oeuvre of the renowned German sculptor Richard Heß.

In their works, these four artists approach the complex and historically rich relationship between humans and horses through a diverse and highly dynamic visual language.
