Akiko Ozasa - Lidless

Akiko Ozasa (born 1981 in Osaka) is a trained calligrapher who studied traditional Japanese painting in Japan. She then continued her studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. She currently lives and works in Japan.

“Lidless” is the theme of the partly large-format drawings that, at first glance, often appear delicate, floral, and even decorative. However, upon closer inspection, one discovers brutal scenes depicting Ozasa's unique figures. Young girls let blood spatter across the paper.

We can no longer turn a blind eye to the physical and psychological violence in our society, and Ozasa also undermines the purifying function of eyelids. Blood flows from the wounded eyes, allowing us to share in the pain experienced.
