Kerstin Grimm | Kinderspiele | Zeichnungen

Kerstin Grimm, born in 1956, creates worlds in her drawing collages that are both grotesque and intimate. Her theme may seem "innocent" at first glance, and her motifs appear superficially childlike and naive. However, what lies beneath the delicate drawings and bronzes, with their formal restraint, is the untamed primal force of dreams.

Kerstin Grimm's theatrical presentations are filled with references to traditional fairy tales and modern myths, weaving a web of surreal entanglements and associative relationships that can be perceived as frightening, intimidating, beautiful, or eerie, depending on the interpretation. Through crumpling, folding, and gluing, Kerstin Grimm transfers her exploration of the surface and, above all, what lies beneath it onto paper.

Her large-format works are complemented by the series "Die Große Flussfahrt," which she began in 1989 and is presented here in excerpts. The bronze allegories, exclusively set on boats, accompany the drawings like silent guardians on their journey into the unknown.

Kerstin Grimm initially studied German literature at Humboldt University in Berlin and then pursued evening studies at the Berlin University of the Arts under Rolf Winkler. She has received numerous scholarships (including from the Berlin Senate for Culture, the Kulturfonds Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture of Brandenburg) and has been exhibiting regularly across Germany since 1991. Kerstin Grimm lives and works in Berlin.
