The kunstraum t27 presents the latest large-scale paintings by Michel Carmantrand and Michaela Zimmer. The exhibition contrasts coloristic movement through surface and line. The abstract color movements of the acrylic paintings actively engage the viewer on an emotional level, almost physically palpable. The artists intentionally influence the experience of color as they navigate a realm between consciousness and intuition, juggling the laws of color.
Michel Carmantrand perceives his flat color painting as a process of discovering forms from the outside. What emerges in the paintings through his work are actually pre-existing structures. For him, these are 'natural,' beyond figurative or abstract painting. The artist paints his perception, finding form-giving colors that help him define a world. He also considers how comparative seeing affects the experience of color.
Michaela Zimmer engages in a process with her painting. Comparable to an ongoing contest between line and color, a physically tangible field of tension arises from movements. The central concern of the artist is the spaces in between this movement. Her paintings are snapshots of something that only becomes visible over time.
