Imaginary Game
The double exhibition "Imaginary Game" at the Galerie Klaus Gerrit Friese in Stuttgart will take place from March 6 to May 9, 2026. In this exhibition, the two self-taught artists William N. Copley (1919–1996) and Ambra Durante (*2000) come together, showcasing a remarkable closeness in their artistic practices despite an age difference of eight decades. The opening will be initiated by Klaus Gerrit Friese at 7 PM.
William N. Copley, whose work has been presented at Galerie Friese for over twenty years, is heavily influenced by European Surrealism and is considered a precursor to Pop Art. His works explore themes of sexual desire and the moral implications of post-war American society. In contrast, Ambra Durante, born in Genoa and living in Berlin since 2007, brings a contemporary perspective to the exhibition. Her drawings reflect inner experiences and address themes such as loneliness, loss, and self-assertion.
Thus, the exhibition unites two artistic positions that share a belief in the power of imagination and the joy of storytelling. Both artists use their works as a protected space for experience, expressing their individual viewpoints and emotions.
