Yuji Agematsu
Galerie Buchholz in Cologne presents a solo exhibition by the artist Yuji Agematsu from May 1 to June 20, 2026. This exhibition is divided into two parts. The first part, titled "Zip: 01-01-2024 - 12-31-2024," will open in conjunction with Gallery Weekend Berlin. In this section, Agematsu showcases a collection of his signature "Zips," crafted from debris he collects during his daily walks in New York. These miniature sculptures are arranged in cellophane wrappers from cigarette packs and reflect the experiences and impressions of his walks throughout 2024, a leap year.
A total of three hundred sixty-six of these Zips will be displayed in the gallery on shelves specially designed by the artist. The works serve as a reminder of the artist's daily practice, as he has created one Zip every day since 1996, effectively maintaining a continuous diary of his experiences. The second part of the exhibition, "Marseille 1994," will open on June 26, 2026, and will feature a performance by the artist as well as an installation of projected 35mm slides that Agematsu took in Marseille in 1994. This exhibition marks Yuji Agematsu's first solo show at Galerie Buchholz and his first in Germany.
