The Day After

The exhibition "The Day After" by Lebanese artist Rayyane Tabet will be presented at Galerie Sfeir-Semler in Hamburg from November 20, 2025, to May 9, 2026. This marks Tabet's third solo exhibition at this gallery. The exhibition features three new installations that engage with significant ruptures in modern history. The events that will particularly resonate in 2025 include the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the 50th anniversary of the start of the Lebanese Civil War, and the 5th anniversary of the explosion in the port of Beirut.

A central piece of the exhibition is a herbarium of 40 plants and trees that survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing. This installation, titled "Hibakujumoku," showcases on etched glass the species that endured the attack and continue to grow in Japan. With this work, Tabet addresses biological resilience and the memories carried by these plants, inviting viewers to reflect on the hope they symbolize for the aftermath of such disasters.
