NORTHERN POP @ 30works Double Exhibition with Anna Schellberg & Devin Miles Opening: March 26, 2022, 8:00 PM

Their home is Hamburg, their inspiration the whole world: Anna Schellberg and Devin Miles are among the most prominent representatives of contemporary German Pop Art. What unites them is their reference to icons and symbols of pop culture. However, due to different contextualizations, styles, and techniques, they develop entirely distinct styles that range from high impulsivity to reduced reflection.

Anna Schellberg manages to pay tribute to both well-known and lesser-known heroines. By stripping her female faces of their polished, formulaic appearance through the use of diversely colored, opposing color bars, she abstracts them and constructs a new image of beauty. This results in a surprisingly harmonious and unpretentious effect, despite or perhaps because of the consciously artificial character.

Devin Miles also reflects on the prevailing connotations of beauty and societal values, which he deliberately questions using striking typography. In his new, technically sophisticated mixed-media works, the Hamburg artist employs silver, gold leaf, and Plexiglas, which play a significant role. This choice of sublime materials further intensifies the thematic exploration of critiques of capitalism and social malaise.

In addition to the opening, the 30works gallery offers two exclusive guided tours with Devin Miles and Anna Schellberg through the exhibition "NORTHERN POP." The tours will take place shortly before the opening, on March 26 at 6 PM and 7 PM.
