The Bleidorf Gölm is deserted – the Gölmers have gone on a journey. We usually encounter them in groups, but sometimes they appear alone, as here: the Gölmer diver is searching near the Baltic Sea.

Hopefully, he doesn’t want to swim, as he is missing his arms, thinks the viewer. This is characteristic of the Gölmers, who often resemble figures from a child’s drawing. Childlike heads with large button eyes stare at us, perplexing us, as they remain stuck in their often oversized rubber boots, leaving us alone with our thoughts.

Uwe Schloen works with a variety of media, creating his own cosmos filled with allusions to the past, the possible, and the present. Regardless of the form language he employs, he always balances between shock and laughter.
