Margret Hoppe. Südwall
“ ...
Born in the 80s of the former GDR, I grew up in a closed
and dictatorial system in a family that experienced separation
and losses due to the construction of the Berlin Wall.
Today I
find a reference to my own history in the relics of the military
past in the south of France.
As part of the residence program
of Le Garage Photographie and the Goethe-Institut I follow
the traces of history, revealing the architectural remains that
appear camouflaged, almost invisibly integrating into the
landscape.
The artificial fortifications become part of the local
landscape and are left to their own devices.
At the same time
I dealt intensively with the history of Marseille as an exile city
in order to trace the experiences of those who wanted to
leave Europe for America by ship …” Margret Hoppe
