Kilders & Seyd @ 30works

30works kicks off the autumn season with a double-format premiere: Mo Kilders and Fabian Seyd, both new additions to our artist portfolio, represent entirely independent positions that we intentionally juxtapose. This aims to create a tension that reflects current developments in contemporary figurative painting.

The visual worlds of Cologne-based Mo Kilders depict people in specific locations engaged in archetypal activities. We see individuals strolling on the beach, an ambitious swimmer in a pool, or young street basketball players in an urban setting. Through the implicit dynamics that Mo Kilders masterfully freezes and enhances with reflections, distortions, and omissions, she atmospherically intensifies the space and creates a substrate of staged coincidence through a sense of casualness.

Berlin-based Fabian Seyd references classical subjects and topoi from art history in his works, translating them into the present with modern codes. He disrupts old master portraiture and landscape motifs with abstractions and irritations, thereby creating pictorial spaces with significant suggestive potential. In his latest works, he draws on the engraving art of the legendary illustrator Gustav Doré, which he "upgrades" through painting, highlighting its enduring aesthetic relevance.

Kilders & Seyd @ 30works Opening receptions: Friday, September 4th and Saturday, September 5th, 2020, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The artists will be present on both dates.
