Anna Schellberg - Paint or Die! @ 30works

Women with presence, strength, and that certain something: these are the protagonists in Anna Schellberg's visual worlds. By portraying icons like Frida Kahlo, Amy Winehouse, and even Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II., in her own unique style, the Hamburg-based artist weaves entirely new narratives around perception and truth. The rich content of Anna Schellberg's works stems from her dynamic play with ideas, materials, and techniques, culminating in highly complex compositions. With elements of collage and decollage, graffiti, drippings, and fragmentations, she deconstructs the superficially beautiful and familiar, as well as the always formulaic, transforming it into something new—layer by layer, she constructs entirely fresh perspectives, contexts, and connotations. While primarily associated with Urban and Street Art, Anna Schellberg also draws from Pointillism, Affichism, and Pop Art in her work. Instead of a brush, she uses credit and discarded keycode cards, which she appreciates for their flexible handling. She finds inspiration during her travels, where she discovers not only motifs but also materials that she incorporates into her portraits of lesser-known heroines and heroes.
