Female Positions @ 30works

In March, 30works celebrates a premiere: with Female Positions, we present a group exhibition featuring only female artists. The focus is on painting, which Alex Krull, Rhea Standke, Melanie Tilkov, and Yvonne Voermans-Eiserfey each approach in seemingly very different ways; however, upon closer examination, surprising parallels emerge. Beyond their individual motifs and materiality, they uncover hidden states of being and reveal underlying truths that once again demonstrate: nothing is as it initially appears.

In Rhea Standke's paintings, roses, parrot tulips, and magnolias dissolve into ecstatic, virtuoso abstractions of color and light; with this, the native of Dresden creates a completely dematerialized pictorial cosmos. Alex Krull illustrates for us the transience and irrepeatability of the moment in her hypnotic views of water and swimming pools – drawn from a highly aesthetic compendium of waves, reflections, and architectural elements. The auratic female portraits by Melanie Tilkov manage to make the space between physical presence and emotional location almost tangible. They capture the essence of true "being." The fragility of this essence also occupies Yvonne Voermans-Eiserfey: she shows in her powerful yet sensitive animal representations, which combine both figurative and abstract elements, how sublime yet fragile nature, existence, and identity are.
