HORST WACKERBARTH - »THE RED COUCH: A GALLERY OF MANKIND« / DÜSSELDORF PHOTO

Horst Wackerbarth is an internationally renowned photographic artist from Düsseldorf, whose works have been showcased in over 50 solo exhibitions worldwide. The aim of his most famous project - The Red Couch: A Gallery of Mankind - is to create a gallery of humanity.

For 40 years, Wackerbarth has been traveling the world with his red couch.

He has placed it in 53 countries within the living environments of diverse individuals. The Red Couch serves as a common ground, a throne, and a medium for communication. Social background and potential labels do not matter. Horst Wackerbarth states: "Every person is unique. But what connects us must be emphasized much more strongly. Because what divides us are nationalities, skin colors, religions, income classes—essentially all that nonsense we need to overcome." The Red Couch brings all people to eye level.
