Winter Group Show „EATINGTHESKY“
Galerie Frank Fluegel, specializing in contemporary art and POP ART, presents the group exhibition "Eatingthesky" during the winter months, featuring works that explore the theme of typography in art by artists such as John Giorno, Iván Navarro, Mel Bochner, David Shrigley, Ruby Anemic, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, Mr. Brainwash, and others.
The exhibition showcases original graphics, collages, and sculptures centered around the theme of text. In 20th-century art—especially since Concept Art—there are numerous artistic positions where text becomes a medium in its own right. Text adds a poetic force to the visual information of images. Signs, words, and sentences trigger the imagination and intertwine with the expressive power of the images. At the same time, signs, words, and sentences can replace the traditional image.
John Giorno passed away in October at the age of 82 in his hometown of New York. The poet, artist, and activist was a contemporary and lover of Andy Warhol in the 1960s and starred in Warhol's film "Sleep."
He is considered a key figure in the New York art scene and engaged deeply with the development and use of modern communication technology. He also gained recognition for his poetic writings on canvas. Giorno was married to Ugo Rondinone until his death.
Ugo Rondinone (*1964) is undoubtedly one of the most renowned contemporary conceptual and installation artists. The Swiss-born artist lives and works in Zurich and New York. His works are found in nearly all major museums around the world. Galerie Frank Fluegel currently features two new works by Rondinone.
On October 2, 2019, a new world record for a painting by American Pop Art artist Alex Katz was set at the auction house Phillips in London.
The painting Blue Umbrella I from 1972 sold for £3,375,000, equivalent to 4.1 million USD. We have numerous works by Alex Katz in our collection, including graphics, paintings, and sculptures.

Regular exhibitions take place at the centrally located gallery on Obere Wörthstrasse across two floors. Participation in international art fairs complements the program.
