James Rizzi: Better Than Stocks.

Exhibition at Kunsthandlung Langheinz

During his lifetime, New York Pop Art artist James Rizzi enchanted the art scene. The exhibition opens with a vernissage at Kunsthandlung Langheinz on Friday, October 18, 2019, at 7 PM. Around 120 pieces will be on display, including signed prints, canvases, and some extremely rare collector's items and original drawings.

One such rarity is "A WALK ON WALL STREET." Wall Street is much more than just a street: the New York Stock Exchange is the largest securities market in the world and is commonly referred to as "Wall Street" because of its location there. The artwork depicts the stock exchange, along with numerous skyscrapers featuring friendly facades. Of course, there are also the typical Rizzi birds pecking around the scene, as well as lovers and pedestrians of all kinds. A VW bus adorned with the peace sign of the hippies rolls down the bustling street, passing by a sewer worker who is just moving aside a manhole cover. Almost overlooked yet still noticeable, around the corner of the exchange is a cheeky self-promotion: RIZZI ART. BETTER THAN STOCKS. Translated freely into German: Rizzi art is better than stocks. It’s as if the artist anticipated that his works would appreciate in value. James Rizzi passed away in 2011 at the age of 61 from heart failure. Since then, many of his works have become unavailable. Particularly sought after by collectors are the hand-signed 3D pieces, which are also part of the exhibition.
