Urban art pioneer, world-renowned banana sprayer, and chronicler of contemporary culture and history: Thomas Baumgärtel is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary art in Germany, and also one of the most versatile.

Whether it’s a photorealistic view of the Eiffel Tower, the Cologne Cathedral appearing pixelated through distortion effects, or poetic landscapes that seem to echo the pointillism of Seurat and Signac with their grid-like aesthetics: Thomas Baumgärtel is an undisputed master at continually extracting new facets from his spray art, thus transforming it into a completely independent genre.

With "City, Country, River," the artist from Cologne celebrates the grandeur of both urban and natural landscapes. The highlight of the exhibition consists of striking, impressionistic landscape portraits created in collaboration with Baumgärtel's long-time artist friend Harald Klemm, marking the 20th anniversary of a rare and close artistic partnership.

It is the vastness of the landscape, its constant change despite spatial continuity, and its archaic nature that Thomas Baumgärtel and Harald Klemm translate into hypnotic visual worlds using stencils, spray cans, and brushes. Their jointly created nature metamorphoses thus surrender to timelessness.
