Bel Borba - Sons Do Brasil

You are cordially invited to the opening with an artist talk

“BEL BORBA – SONS DO BRASIL”
On October 5th, at 6:00 PM.

The Brazilian artist Bel Borba is considered a cultural icon in his home country and is recognized as the leading representative of the new South American Pop Art and Urban Art movements. After showcasing his works in exhibitions across Brazil, the USA, Spain, Switzerland, and various museums in Germany, we are now presenting an exclusive exhibition of the artist. In 2019, Bel Borba had the honor of exhibiting at the Venice Biennale.

Borba has multiple connections to Germany: not only did he work from a makeshift studio in Düsseldorf in the mid-1980s, but during that time he also painted a section of the Berlin Wall as part of an official initiative.

Bel Borba works and lives in Salvador, where he has created dozens of works and artistic interventions for urban spaces in the form of sculptures, murals, and large-scale installations. Through his art, he comments on everyday urban life and expands it artistically.

Additionally, Bel Borba is a virtuoso painter and graphic artist. He creates impressively large canvases and designs original graphics on paper. Sometimes his works are purely abstract, while at other times the human figure takes center stage. The depicted figures are often rendered with just a few brush strokes and overlapped by abstract color elements. Bel Borba is particularly known for this unique intertwining of the abstract and the figurative.

“There is too much gray in the world. We need more color!” – Bel Borba
