Ganz oder gar nicht - Karikaturen von Peter Bauer

From September 7, the Kunsthandlung Langheinz will showcase caricatures by Peter Bauer. Around 60 works, including limited edition prints and originals, will be on display as part of the exhibition "Ganz oder gar nicht" from September 7 to October 6, 2018. The caricaturist from Rostock uses subtle humor to comment on current events, presenting both humans and animals in all their facets.

A caricature represents exaggeration and distortion. Bauer offers us his perspective on the world, sometimes mockingly, sometimes sharply, but mostly with a wink. What does an optimist look like? Well-fed and with a friendly smile, he waters flowers. The fact that a pile of wilting greenery has formed in front of him goes unnoticed by this cheerful soul. In contrast, the pessimist wears a gloomy expression. With his umbrella, he has captured a thick cumulus cloud, which is now pouring rain right over his head, leaving the gloomy observer standing in a puddle while the world around him appears quite cheerful. Another image tells the story of the fire brigade: There’s a fire. Black smoke ominously rises into the sky. The little house is already half burned down. Unfortunately, it’s right in the middle of a maze. In the distance, a tiny red fire truck approaches, but the siren is still unheard. The fire brigade races through the labyrinth, round after round. And the viewer chuckles quietly—he already knows how this episode will end.

Peter Bauer draws from a bubbling imagination to create both serious and humorous artworks, with a wide range of styles. He works as a freelance graphic designer, illustrator, and caricaturist, designing advertising campaigns for large companies, publishing books, and, on the side, is a recipient of various awards. His works are included in collections such as the "Wilhelm Busch – Deutsches Museum für Karikatur und Zeichenkunst" and the "Kupferstichkabinett Greiz." For the opening on September 7 at 7 PM, the artist will travel from Rostock. Because when he does something, he does it all the way.
