The_Vegan_Scanning_Printing_Project von Achim Mohné
Achim Mohné is presenting his second solo exhibition at Galerie Judith Andreae in conjunction with the small climate summit in Bonn (UNFCCC), showcasing works from a series of media performances involving scanners and objects that he has been developing since 2000. Most of the images will be created during the Night of the Galleries.
In the exhibition titled 'The_Vegan_Scanning_Cooking_Printing_Project,' the artist explores the ethical and ecological aspects of a vegan diet, introducing visitors to the culinary richness of a plant-based kitchen. Meat consumption contributes more to global warming than all forms of air, land, and sea transportation combined. Over 50 percent of climate impact comes from the consumption of meat and other animal products. Therefore, a diet that avoids or reduces animal products is a form of "active climate protection." In a media cooking performance, seasonal vegetables, salads, fruits, and other plants are scanned in high resolution, and the food is then transformed into vegan dishes by chefs. As the chefs prepare the vegetables, the digital data is processed on the computer, printed as modern still lifes, and presented as unique pieces arranged in museum-quality series within the exhibition space.
The_Vegan_Scanning_Cooking_Printing_Project thus thematically connects to Achim Mohné's last major project in front of the Bundeskunsthalle. With the work 0.0064 MEGAPIXEL – Planet Earth Is Blue And There Is Nothing I Can’t Do, the world-famous NASA image from Apollo 8 in 1968 was divided into over 6000 pixels and recreated using colored concrete blocks in the plaza. This serves as a symbol for environmental and climate protection, highlighting the fragility of our "blue planet," which, through satellite images, is once again shared with the world 50 years after the original photograph.
Achim Mohné studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and later at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, where he worked with Jürgen Klauke and Valie Export, among others. Since his graduation in 1997, the media artist has been working with photography, video, installations, public space, the internet, and sound.
His national and international projects include solo exhibitions (Luther and the Avant-Garde, Wittenberg, 2017; Moscow Biennale, Globale, Karlsruhe, 2015; SOUND ART, ZKM 2014; Kunstlicht als Lichtkunst, ZKM 2006; Iconoclash ZKM 2001; CTRL Space ZKM 2002), as well as art in architecture projects (House of Electronic Arts, Basel 2015; UdK Berlin; AdK Berlin; Edith Russ House; Kumu Museum Tallinn).
Together with Uta Kopp, Achim Mohné founded the project REMOTEWORDS in 2007. Oversized lettering has been placed at 35 locations across 5 continents, conveying its message through satellite images, Google Earth, and Apple Maps in the digital realm.
A special edition of the gallery magazine essentials#12 will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.
