mittenimwald - Young, Poor & Angry @ 30works
He is one of the giants of German Urban Art: The Hamburg-based artist mittenimwald has made a name for himself with his aesthetically refined and pointed stencils, leaving a mark that extends far beyond the country's borders – his artistic footprints can be traced all the way to Mexico and Asia.
The focus of his brand-new works is on women as dual beings: Beautiful, self-determined, smart, and confident, yet also rebellious, provocative, and resilient. mittenimwald's female figures serve as both homage and a fitting demystification. The artist impressively demonstrates that behind the superficially beautiful, the abyss can always lurk, implying both the good and the contentious, with deliberate provocation being part of the identity play. Equally captivating as the motifs are the intricately designed backgrounds and typographies that place his heroines in ever-changing contexts, thus telling new stories each time. "Young, Poor & Angry" is mittenimwald's ode to the fairer sex – staged here in an ambivalent interplay of stylistic elevation and conscious humanization.
mittenimwald lives and works in Hamburg. He is part of the "Street Art nobility" of the Hanseatic city, a status bolstered by his collaboration and friendship with the legendary OZ. His stencils, paste-ups, and tags are a staple of many German urban landscapes, particularly in his hometown of Hamburg, as well as in numerous private collections across Europe, Asia, and Mexico. The laudation for mittenimwald (who will be present) will be delivered by forensic expert Dr. Mark Benecke.
