Alex Katz - Celebrating 90 Years - 06.10.2017 - 15.01.2018

GALERIE FLUEGEL-RONCAK, specializing in Pop Art and contemporary art, will open the exhibition "Alex Katz - Celebrating 90 Years" on Friday, October 6, 2017, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The exhibition will run until January 15, 2018.

This year, Alex Katz turns 90. To celebrate this milestone, we will showcase recent works on paper, as well as various oil paintings on wood from the Small Paintings series.

Additionally, some of his Cut Outs will be on display. The current auction record for one of his paintings stands at $690,000, which is still far from the prices of his American counterparts like Tom Wesselmann or Andy Warhol.

Alex Katz was born on July 24, 1927, in Brooklyn/New York and is considered one of the most significant living representatives of American contemporary art and Pop Art. His works can be found in all major museums around the world, including the Albertina in Vienna and the MOMA in New York.

He developed his style in the 1950s, heavily influenced by flatness and clear lines, as a counterpoint to the prevailing abstract expressionism. Katz focuses on the surface, bringing together female bodies and architecture with a constant flattening of various pictorial elements on the canvas.

Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, located in Nuremberg, is dedicated to high-quality originals of Pop Art, contemporary painting, and photography. Regular exhibitions take place at the centrally located venue at Obere Wörthstraße 12.
