sassi die fiume e trasparenze - Simona Deflorin
The poetry of materials like glass and stone is expressed in the works of Simona Deflorin.
Her sensitive and playful approach to these themes evokes the vibrancy of dreams, as well as vulnerability and transformation.
Dr. Irmgard Sedler, the director of the Kornwestheim Museum in the Kleihues-Bau, writes: “River and stone bed are for Simona Deflorin retreats of the self, where the stone, with its clearly defined physicality, is more than just a compositional element and motif: Stones lie and provide information, the artist notes in 2012. … Stone and water have become her symbols of being at home, objects and media of the emotional, which in turn come to life.”
Elsewhere, she reflects on the motif of the glass fall, drawn from the objectual repository of the Romantic-Uncanny, stating that the hood serves as both a protective space and an instrument of suffocation. It suggests safety, yet ultimately, through its transparent glass covering, it is nothing more than a medium that reveals all – a fallacy of security.
In a sketchbook, the artist summarizes: Everything converges in the water. Place of ceremony.
