Bettina Sellmann: Hello Color
Bettina Sellmann: Hello Color
Galerie Gilla Lörcher | Contemporary Art is pleased to present "Hello Color," the third solo exhibition of the artist Bettina Sellmann.
Hello! Colorful acrylic glass, shattered. Eeeu! Colorful shards from champagne and wine bottles, vibrant remnants of the art scene, an opening, from the studio. Yay! Four large-scale paintings, some smeared, some painted in pink and sky blue. How sweet! Horned or crowned with polished acrylic glass, fake but brightly colored and Kawaii! somehow. Dancing figures dissolving into color and abstract shapes. Tingle! Floating eyes and multiplied arms. So fun! Everything is carefree and cheerful and wow and ... Color.
Bettina Sellmann studied from 1992 to 1997 at the Städelschule in Frankfurt under Jörg Immendorff, Christa Näher, and Thomas Bayrle (master student). She also earned her Master of Fine Arts at Hunter College in New York City, where she lived for 11 years. Since 2010, she has been living and working in Berlin. She has received several awards, including the Skowhegan Residency and the DAAD Annual Scholarship.
