Vernissage und Ausstellung | Krzysztof Furtas „Das Ende der Zeit“

On Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 5:00 PM, the fourth exhibition in the series "Görlitzer ART – Artist Portrait" will open at Galerie Brüderstraße.

The focus will be on Krzysztof Furtas, the creator of the "&" sculpture located at Wilhelmsplatz. Under the title THE END OF TIME, Mr. Furtas, who will be present on this day, will showcase selected artworks from recent years. Key themes emerge from the artist's work: postmemory, failure, defeat, fear, disbelief.

His exhibition in Görlitz revolves around the theme of freedom. The inspiration comes from the story of the French composer Olivier Messiaen, who was interned in Görlitz's Stalag VIII A during World War II and composed his famous work "Quartet for the End of Time" during this time, premiering it with fellow prisoners on January 15, 1945. The exhibition will be on display from January 12 to February 25, 2017, at Galerie Brüderstraße.

In light of the exhibition's theme, we would also like to draw your attention to an external event: the "International Messiaen Days Görlitz – Zgorzelec" taking place from January 13 to 15, 2017.

Görlitzer ART is a collaborative project between the cities of Görlitz and Wrocław from April 1, 2016, to April 9, 2017, organized as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 event, curated by the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts Wrocław and coordinated by the Görlitz Cultural Service Company.
